I Leave in 5 hours....I DID IT!!!

So i'm sitting here in KC with my sister thinking, wow i'm leaving in 5 hours! I'm not sure how but I managed to say bye to some very important people in my life (of course while crying like crazy!) and fought through terrible weather to get here and basically stressed out to the point of pulling my hair out but i'm here, i did it!

Tomorrow morning I will say goodbye one more time and basically leave all I know behind. But to tell you the truth I'm not worried anymore, for heavens sake I actually did it!!!! Ten months ago when I came up with this i didn't think I would actually be able to do it but hey God does some amazing things!

So i'm off to spend time with my sister but I will update this when I get to my family on February 1st. Thank you all for your prayers and support!

Tanya

Visa:noun-Document that is equivalent to death by torture

So we finally went to Chicago to get my visa. Of course it came with as much stress as humanly possible. To start it off my wallet got stolen Friday night and I needed my License for my Visa Appointment. Oh and my luck Monday was a holiday so I couldn't get it. So I was freaking out all the way there. And my official documents from my school in Italy had not been sent yet so we had to have a cover letter and copies of all the papers sent to the consulate.

After the very long drive to Chicago we got our hotel. The next morning I woke up super early got ready and just waited. We walked to the Consulate and the entire time I thought I was going to get sick. We walk in the doors, ride the elevator to the 18th floor and check in. We finally sit down in seats that look like they are straight from a bus station and wait. I'm starring at a small windown directly in front of me just waiting for them to call my name. In complete Italian fashion my name was finally called 20minutes after our appointment. The lady behind the desk began asking for documents and I would slide them to her. One by one the stack got bigger. Of course being a minor I had like 3xs the papers as everyone else. She was so nice and understanding. We got it all done and now all I do is wait. I should get it in the mail by Monday.

Oh and one of the greatest things, everyone in the room was talking about where they were going and when and this one guy was like "I leave the 24th of February, its cutting it close." I wanted to be like I leave in a week, thats cutting it close lol.

Update

So its been what seems like forever since I have wrote a blog. I'll just divide things up...

Pre-Departure Orientation: THe PDO was so great! It actually was a ton of fun and helped a lot. It also helped for all 3 of us AFSers to realize, wow we're leaving the country in a month!

Host Family: I still talk to them very frequently through email and Eleonora now has a facebook and I talk to her on that. They seem like a great fit for me. They have told me what my life will be like day to day and it sounds amazing! I also found out today from Walter that I will be riding a train from Rome the morning of the 1st of February to Modena, arriving in the afternoon.

Visa: I'm still waiting on my papers from AFS!!!! This is very stressful considering i'm leaving in 2 weeks. So please say an extra prayer for me over this subject. If I don't get it in time I don't get to leave on time :(

Packing: Today I got everything else that I needed. I also brought my bags down to my room, 44 pounds just seems impossible! But Erica and I are going to try to attack it Saturday.

Going away party: My party is on the 24th at my church (First Baptist of Rogersville) it starts at 6pm and will go until everyone leaves. so please stop by!

So people ask are you excited...YES! I started counting down at 256 days and now i'm just 14 days Away!!!!!!!!! But at the same time I'm not ready to leave Erica and especially not Ally. But the people that I'll miss the most will be with me when I leave from the KC airport so I'll have a few more memories with them. God has brought me so many hard times with this trip already I know that He'll protect me. He's got a hand on all His children so I am not scared at all. My friend always joked that he has family in the Italian Mafia that could protect me but I'm good, I've got a GOD that is bigger than any mafia.

PDO Tomorrow

So tomorrow I have to sit in a room with 2 other students and an adult for 6 hours going over our handbooks. It'll probably be pretty boring at first but I'm excited to finally get a chance to ask questions and get them answered by someone who knows what they are talking about.

(Is this short enough Mr. Bishline? lol)

BUON ANNO

HAPPY NEW YEARS!

This new year is going to be amazing and I know that for a fact! Anything that starts out as good as this year can't be bad. Last night I went out to eat with Ally at Houlihans (or however you spell it) and it was pretty much amazing! Then we made a few stops and went to 'pick up my car' at the church. When we got there I noticed my other best friend's,Dilan's, car was parked right next to mine. I walked in the church and there were some of my closest friends. They even had a cake that said "We'll Miss You" that had an Italian flag on it! As the night went on more and more people showed up. Everytime someone walked it I ran up to them and gave them a hug cause they were people I haven't seen in months! We played the Wii in my youth room, ran away, talked, ate, laughed...A TON, and basically had one of the best New Year's Eve parties ever! lol And of course Ally spent the night and we didn't go to sleep till 6am. I can't think of a better way to start the year!

Now I'm under a month away from leaving. 2009 holds many new adventures and many of which are down paths I never thought was possible. Thank you everyone for making 2008 what it was. I'm so blessed with amazing friends, family, teachers, coworkers, and church family. I can't imagine not having all of you there to help me along like you always have!
All my Love!
